Franchesca Isaac (she/her)

Hi! My name is Hailie. I study psychology at Temple University and am the intern at Vitality. I’m here for the same reason as you, to learn more about holistic healing. Welcome to my very first blog post! I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know all of the lovely people that make up Vitality through a series of interviews. These interviews allowed me to learn about the services offered at Vitality as well the individuals that provide them. Over the next month you will be able to get a deeper insight into everyone in our wellness collective!

Approaching holistic healing can feel overwhelming. Though holistic living is on the rise, much is still left unknown to the general population. I personally have much to learn, and these interviews were a great help in gaining some insight. To start us off, I will introduce you to Franchesca, the acupuncturist at Vitality. Acupuncture is a practice I knew very little about before our interview together. So if you’re like me, this post might que your interest to look into acupuncture and its wonderful benefits.

Meet Franchesca, the acupuncturist at Vitality. She first fell in love with acupuncture while using it in her own life. Before Franchesca knew of acupuncture, she experienced awful menstrual cramps that prompted her to look for pain relief. Her sister directed her towards holistic health. This led her to acupuncture. She was specifically drawn towards Chinese medicine philosophy:

“The body is looked at like a garden, not a machine.”

She admires the image Chinese medicine holds on the body, each part of the body is connected. The magic of acupuncture is treating the root cause of an issue and allowing positive effects in the rest of the body to naturally come about. For example, Franchesca has noticed that the root cause of acne is typically an issue in the gut or a hormone imbalance. Reflecting on the chinese philosophy quote she loves, ”The body is looked at like a garden, not a machine.” Franchesca believes the body is to be treated with the same gentle touch and attentiveness that a garden receives. Just as the growth of a garden cannot be rushed, patience is key in securing a strong foundation for the body to grow. All we have to do is provide the tools for it to do so.

Being able to experience the benefits in her own life, as well as knowing she desired to work in healthcare/healing, she set out on the pursuit of a career in acupuncture. She has now been successfully performing acupuncture for 9.5 years in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She specializes in treating women’s health through facial cosmetic acupuncture.

Franchesca was blessed to have benefitted from the practice, and now her biggest blessing is being able to share the rewards of acupuncture with her clients. She finds great joy in taking this journey with them and witnessing their growth throughout the process. Many clients deal with persistent struggle and a loss of hope that they’ll ever find healing.. Franchesca has had the pleasure of revealing the light at the end of the tunnel, just as she once found herself.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture consists of thin needles being inserted into the body, so thin that only minimal discomfort is usually caused. Though these needles are minimally invasive, they are considered major trauma to the body. The body’s natural healing abilities are stimulated by the experienced trauma, initiating a healing cascade of chemicals to flow throughout the body. These needles are strategically placed to address the root cause of the client’s issue. This allows the body to truly heal rather than only providing a temporary fix. I don’t know about you, but I find this all pretty fascinating! And, acupuncture is actually more than just the insertion of needles. It also includes cupping, gua sha, moxibustion (warming herb for pain), and electrical stimulation for a more powerful treatment. It is also important to keep in mind that treatment is not typically a one time session. Acupuncture requires 6-12 sessions to begin seeing results for a recurring health problem.
